Can I also recommend the book It’s the Menopause by Kaz Cooke? It’s a humorous and light hearted look at some incredibly frightening menopausal symptoms, all written by and for Australians.
I have an upcoming post in a few weeks about this topic, because we do get fobbed off. As women 40+ we fade away and no one cares. Our symptoms are either incorrectly diagnosed as menopausal or menopause itself is waved at us as a cure-all diagnosis to get us out of the GP’s surgery.
It’s tough.
Not easy to navigate once you also throw in aging parents, kids leaving the nest, marriage bust-ups, and the world being in the incomprehensible mess that it is.
Lovely to hear from you! It is an individual journey - some women say they have almost no symptoms - lucky them! I guess I was annoyed because I was not being heard.
Great information here, Rosemary. I understand your anger. I put up with hot flushes for five years thinking they weren't so bad, but they were! HRT has reduced but not halted them completely but I should have done something sooner. What also made me mad was that the HRT was not covered in the pharmaceutical benefits scheme until last financial year. It's since come done in price a lot, which is good, but it took too long. It's hard not to believe if it was men experiencing the symptoms, it'd be taken a lot more seriously ...
Great post Rosemary. It's such a journey we have to go on and each so different. I was fortunate enough to see an excellent GP when I was in Brisbane who recognised my symptoms straight away and I've been on HRT ever since which has really helped. All the best with everything x
Yay 🙌🏼
Love this post, Rosemary!

Great the HRT is working for you.
Cheers

I didn't know that about the pharmaceuticals benefits scheme! You're right though about if this was a condition that affected men.

Thanks for the advice Rosemary - I've just hit 40 and need to start thinking/planning/worrying about all this!
And those photos of you are just stunning! xx
